UniVirStor 4.19.4 Released: Unified File Services, Enterprise Alerting, and Role-Based Access Control
UniVirStor 4.19.4 is now generally available. This release marks a significant step forward in how organizations deploy and manage enterprise file services on top of Ceph — introducing production-ready SMB and NFS cluster management, a fully integrated observability stack, and a role-based access control system for the UniVirStor Manager Web UI.
Enhanced CephFS Management
CephFS has become a foundational component of many enterprise storage architectures, and UniVirStor 4.19.4 introduces the management tooling to match.
Visual Volume Tree with Integrated Management Menu
The UniVirStor Manager interface now presents CephFS volumes as anavigable tree structure, with each node directly linked to its corresponding management actions. Administrators can move between Subvolume Groups and individual subvolumes without losing context — a meaningful improvement for environments with complex, multi-tenant CephFS deployments.
Per-Group Data Pool Assignment
UniVirStor 4.19.4 introduces the ability to assign multiple data pools to a single CephFS volume, with each Subvolume Group configured to use a different pool. This enables storage architects to differentiate performance tiers — for example, mapping a latency-sensitive workload to an NVMe-backed pool while routing archival data to high-capacity HDDs — all within a single CephFS namespace.
MDS Management with Real-Time Resource Monitoring
Metadata Server (MDS) configuration now follows a well-defined default topology: one Active MDS and one Hot-Standby MDS per volume, plus a shared standby MDS pool available across volumes. Administrators can monitor MDS instances in real time, with live CPU and memory utilization displayed directly in the management console — enabling proactive capacity planning and faster incident diagnosis.
Subvolume Creation and Management
Full lifecycle management for Subvolumes and Subvolume Groups is now available through the UniVirStor Manager UI, covering creation, configuration, and removal — without requiring command-line access to the underlying Ceph cluster.
All-New SMB Cluster Deployment, Management, and Monitoring
UniVirStor 4.19.4 delivers a complete, production-ready SMB solution — from one-click deployment to ongoing operational monitoring.
One-Click High-Availability SMB and CTDB Cluster
Deploying a clustered SMB service now requires a single operation. UniVirStor Manager orchestrates the full deployment of an SMB and CTDB cluster , with a Virtual IP (VIP) configuration that provides transparent load allocations across cluster nodes. Clients connect to the VIPs and are served without awareness of individual node assignments, and failover is handled automatically.
Per-Host Monitoring
Each SMB host in the cluster exposes real-time CPU and memory utilizationin the management console, providing administrators with a per-node view of service health alongside cluster-level status.
Broad Protocol and Identity Compatibility
- SMB protocol version support starts from SMB v1 and includes all subsequent versions, ensuring compatibility with the full range of client operating systems and legacy applications.
- Active Directory domains and sub-domains can be joined to a single SMB cluster, supporting complex enterprise identity environments and multi-domain organizations.
Quota Monitoring with Threshold Alerting
UniVirStor Manager monitors SMB share utilization in real time and triggers configurable alerts when usage exceeds a defined percentage of the quota. This gives administrators advance warning before shares reach capacity, reducing the risk of service disruption.
SMB Share Management
Full share management — including creation, access control, and removal — is handled through the UniVirStor Manager interface.
All-New NFS Cluster Deployment and Management
Alongside the new SMB capabilities, UniVirStor 4.19.4 introduces equivalent functionality for NFS workloads.
One-Click High-Availability NFS Cluster
A highly available NFS cluster can be deployed in a single step. UniVirStor Manager handles full orchestration, ensuring the service is configured for redundancy from the initial deployment.
Per-Host Status and Resource Monitoring
Each NFS host provides live service status, CPU utilization, and memory utilization in the management console — making it straightforward to identify resource pressure or service anomalies at the host level.
Ingress and Virtual IP Management
NFS Ingress configuration andVirtual IP assignment are managed directly through the UI, simplifying the network configuration required to expose highly available NFS endpoints to clients.
NFS Export Configuration and ACL Management
Administrators can create and manage NFS exports — including Access Control List (ACL) configuration at the export level — without leaving the UniVirStor Manager console.
Enhanced Cluster and Host Monitoring, Alerting, and Reporting
Observability is a prerequisite for reliable storage operations. UniVirStor 4.19.4 introduces a fully integrated monitoring and alerting stack built on proven open-source components.
Integrated Observability Stack
UniVirStor Manager now integrates Exporters, Prometheus, Alertmanager, and SNMP into a unified monitoring pipeline. Metrics are continuously collected from cluster hosts and services, evaluated against configurable alert rules, and delivered to administrators via their preferred email receivers.
Editable and Customizable Alert Rules
Alert rules are no longer fixed. Administrators can view, edit, and create alert rules directly within the management console, adapting thresholds and conditions to the specific operational requirements of their environment.
Real-Time Alert Status and History
The current state of all active alerts is visible at a glance, and a full alert history is queryable for audit, post-incident review, and capacity trend analysis.
Email Notifications
Alert notifications are delivered via email to designated administrators, ensuring that critical events are communicated promptly without requiring administrators to actively monitor a dashboard.
Automated Monthly Reports
UniVirStor Manager automatically generates and emails a monthly cluster statistics report, providing a regular, structured summary of utilization, performance, and health trends — useful for capacity planning and executive reporting.
On-Demand Reports for Any Period
In addition to automated monthly reports, administrators can generate ad hoc cluster statistics reports covering any custom time period — useful for investigations, project reviews, or customer-facing reporting.
Strengthened UniVirStor Manager User Account Management
As storage systems are managed by increasingly distributed teams, granular access control within the management console becomes essential.
Custom Role Definitions
Administrators can now define custom roles within UniVirStor Manager, each with a specific set of management permissions. This enables organizations to align platform access with their internal team structures and responsibilities.
Role-Based Page Access Control
Roles are assigned to individual user accounts, restricting which management pages each user can access. An object storage administrator, for example, can be granted access to monitoring and alerting views without having visibility into user management or SMB configuration pages. This reduces the risk of accidental misconfiguration and supports compliance requirements around least-privilege access.
Security Updates and Bug Fixes
UniVirStor 4.19.4 includes system-wide security hardening and a range of bug fixes to improve stability and reliability across the platform. Customers are encouraged to upgrade at their earliest convenience.
