Object Storage (RGW) Enhancements

The following features expand the capabilities and administrative convenience of the RADOS Gateway (RGW), supporting more complex, multi-tenant, and regulated environments.

  • Multi S3 Storage Support: Introduced support for deploying multiple S3 Object Storage within a single Ceph cluster.
  • Enterprise Identity Management:
Enabled RGW integration with Windows Active Directory via LDAP authentication for centralized user management.
Implemented AWS IAM-compatible user and access control capabilities for granular permissions.
  • Lifecycle Tiering: UVS Manager now supports configuring S3 object lifecycle tiering. Users can define Ceph Object Storage Classes and Placement Targets, mapping these to designated data and index pools.
  • Multi-Realm/Zone Group Administration: UVS Manager now fully supports the administration of RGW users and buckets in complex multi-realm and multi-zone group configurations.
  • Security and Certificates:
Added support for RGW Server-Side Encryption (SSE) to enhance data security.
Users can now update the SSL certificate for individual RGW services directly through the UVS Manager web UI.
  • High Availability & Load Balancing: Integrated LVS (Linux Virtual Server) and Keepalived for robust RGW load balancing and high availability.
  • Port Configuration Safety: Improved port assignment safety by allowing users to check the availability of RGW endpoint IPv4 ports before configuration.
  • Consolidated Management: Consolidated RGW pool management within the main UVS Manager Ceph Pool Management page for unified administration.
Core Ceph Management and Resilience

We have introduced several features to improve the operational stability and ease of managing the underlying Ceph infrastructure.

  • OSD Failover/Failback: Added Ceph OSD failover and failback support specifically for SBB (Storage Bridge Bay) storage servers, increasing host failure protection.
  • Erasure Code Profiles: Introduced support for creating custom Erasure Code (EC) profiles that allow saving multiple EC chunks across a single failure domain, providing greater control over data distribution resilience.
  • RBD Trash Bin: Users can now move Ceph Block Devices (RBDs) to a trash bin and configure a data retention time directly from the UVS Manager web UI.
  • Resource Management: Enabled the reservation of unallocated NVMe SSD partitions, allowing administrators to secure space for future HDD capacity expansion projects.
  • CRUSH Bucket Mobility: Enhanced the convenience and ease of moving CRUSH buckets within the CRUSH tree structure.
  • Dashboard Clarity: Enhanced the UVS dashboard PG (Placement Group) status display using color-coding for easier and faster identification of cluster health.
Administrative and Safety Improvements

These changes focus on improving the administrative experience, system security, and operational safety.

  • Pool Deletion Safety: Improved data safety by requiring the user to explicitly enter the RADOS pool name for confirmation before deletion.
  • Configuration Safety: Reduced the risk of data loss by disabling the ability to reduce the RBD size via the UVS web UI.
  • Networking Configuration: Added support for VLAN and bonding mode configuration within the UVS admin terminal UI for advanced network setup.
  • Security Policy: Prohibited the administrative user from using SSH to access other hosts from the UVS management node, isolating control access.
  • Alert Configuration: UVS Manager alert settings now support configuring SMTP users that do not require a password for configuration.
  • Deprecated Feature: The RADOS pool cache tiering configuration option has been removed (deprecated) from the web UI.
